On December 14th, 1993, Myrna Loy, legendary American actress, passed away at the age of 88. Born Myrna Adele Williams on August 2nd, 1905, in the small mining town of Radersburg, Montana, Myrna began acting in silent films in 1925. Myrna earned renown for her portrayal of Nora Charles in the popular “The Thin Man” series (1934-1947), in addition to prolific roles in “The Best Years of Our Lives,” “The Rains Came,” and “Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House.” In addition to her successful career in film, Myrna was a prominent stage actress, most notably starring in Broadway’s “Girl Who Came to Supper” and “The Laughing Lady.” Later in life, she appeared in television shows and served a six-year term as the first female member of the National Assembly of the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences. Mryna earned many honors in her lifetime, including an honorary Oscar in 1991 for her lifelong work in acting. She was a recipient of the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award and the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award. She is survived by her daughter, grandson, great-granddaughter, and nieces and nephews.
