Patricia Neal, beloved actress and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, died on August 8th, 2010 at the age of 84. Patricia was born in Packard, Kentucky and attended Northwestern University and then the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City. The actress was widely known for her roles in the 1949 film The Fountainhead, Hud (for which she won an Academy Award for Best Actress), In Harm's Way, The Subject Was Roses, Breakfast at Tiffany's, and The Homecoming. In 1965, Patricia survived a massive stroke that she suffered just after her 39th birthday. After years of rehabilitation therapy, Patricia returned to the screen and continued to act until 2002. In addition to her successful acting career, Patricia became a United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) Goodwill Ambassador, dedicated to publicizing the plight of underprivileged children and families. Remembering Patricia, those who knew her will remember her gregarious personality, immense talent, and generous spirit. Patricia is survived by her children Tessa, Theo, and Lucina, one grandson, and her second husband, theatre director Kip Gowans.
