Paul Vario, a noted figure in organized crime, passed away in 1988 on May 3rd at the age of 73. Vario was born in Brooklyn, New York on the 14th of May, 1915. He was a major figure in the Lucchese family and was involved in gambling, loan sharking, and drug trafficking. Vario also owned several businesses that helped him launder his ill-gotten gains. Paul Vario was arrested several times and served a term in prison from 1979 to 1988. During his tenure in prison, he made a plea agreement and became a star witness at trials. This agreement let him reduce his sentence and leave the prison alive. Paul Vario was buried in the Calverton National Cemetery in Long Island, New York. He is survived by numerous relatives and acquaintances. His impact will remain long after he is gone.
