Peter Sallis, renowned British actor and comedy legend, passed away on June 2nd at the age of 96. Similar to his most famous character, Wallace from the Wallace and Gromit series, Sallis was often described as being easy going and maintaining a kind, fatherly disposition. With a career that spanned more than seven decades, Sallis was best known for his roles in Last of the Summer Wine, which first aired in 1973, and started his rise to fame. His voice captured the iconic character of Wallace, a hapless inventor who was often accompanied by his faithful dog Gromit. Sallis was also known for his roles in dramas such as Coronation Street and the 1990s adaptation of The Life and Loves of a She-Devil. He earned several awards and honors, being awarded the Prescots Gold Award for Services to the Arts in 2004 as well as an OBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list in 2010. His warm presence and open heart will be deeply missed by his friends and family, and the many viewers who followed him across the decades.
