Rainier III, Prince of Monaco, passed away peacefully on April 6th, 2005 at 81 years old. Born on May 31st, 1923, he became Prince of Monaco in 1949, succeeding his grandfather, Louis II. He served as the monarchy's leader until his death. Throughout his reign, Rainier achieved many successes, particularly in tourism and finance. He helped create Monaco's reputation as a luxurious destination, by hosting famous celebrities such as Grace Kelly and Salvador Dali. He also promoted international businesses, helping millions of people around the world. Rainier was a popular figure in Monaco. He was noted for his philanthropy and humanitarian work, and for his passion for sports. He is survived by his wife, Princess Gracia Patricia, and his three children, Prince Albert, Princess Caroline, and Princess Stephanie. A memorial service will be held in Monaco on April 12th. Rainier will be deeply missed by the people of Monaco and around the world.
