On October 9, 2024, Ratan Tata passed away peacefully at the age of 86. He was born on December 28, 1937, in Surat, India to Naval Tata and Sooni Tata. From a young age, Ratan showed a great interest and aptitude for business and entrepreneurship. After completing his education at the Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai and graduating with a degree in architecture from Cornell University, Ratan joined the Tata Group in 1962. He started his career on the shop floor of Tata Steel and quickly rose through the ranks, eventually becoming the chairman of the company in 1991. Ratan played a significant role in expanding the Tata Group from its traditional businesses of steel, textiles, and chemicals to newer industries such as telecommunications, information technology, and hospitality. Under his leadership, the Tata Group became a global conglomerate with a presence in over 100 countries. Apart from his contributions to business and the economy, Ratan also had a strong focus on philanthropy and social responsibility. He established the Tata Trusts, which have made significant contributions to education, healthcare, and rural development in India. Ratan's leadership and vision have earned him numerous awards and accolades, including the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan, the second and third highest civilian awards in India. He was also conferred with honorary doctorates from various universities worldwide. Ratan will be remembered as a visionary leader, a trailblazer, and a philanthropist. His legacy will continue to inspire generations to come. He is survived by his wife, his two sons, and his grandchildren. Ratan's passing is a loss not only to his family and friends but also to the business world and society as a whole.
