Regis Philbin, beloved television and radio personality, passed away on July 24, 2020 at the age of 88. Regis was born on August 25, 1931 to Francis and Florenc Philbin in Manhattan’s Upper West Side. From early on, Regis had a passion for the stage, performing in school plays throughout his childhood. Regis soon began to make his mark on television and radio. He hosted various game shows, including “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire,” and “The Big Esplanade Wheel.” Along with Kathie Lee Gifford, he also hosted “Live! with Regis and Kathie Lee.” In addition, he was a popular radio host for the New York City station WOR-AM. Regis’s enthusiasm was infectious, and his charm and friendship endeared him to everyone with whom he interacted. He was particularly proud of his induction into the National Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame in 2006. He is survived by his wife, Joy, his daughters Joanna and Jennifer, his son Daniel, and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Faylen. Regis was a genuine innovator in television and radio, and his spirit will be remembered and cherished by his many fans.
