Roberto Clemente, one of the most intersection baseball greats ever, passed away tragically on December 31, 1972. He was only 38 years old at the time of his passing. Clemente was a real trailblazer, becoming the first Latin American and Caribbean player to be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. He made his Major League Baseball debut with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1955 and went on to be named the National League MVP in 1966. In addition to being a great player, Clemente was also an incredible humanitarian. He donated money to charities across Latin America, visited hospitals in Nicaragua, and drove supplies to earthquake victims in Nicaragua using his plane. Above all, he selflessly risked his life in an attempt to save those of others. As he was flying supplies to Nicaragua after an earthquake, the plane crashed off the coast of Puerto Rico, taking his life in the process. Clemente will be remembered for his incredible leadership, hard work, and positive impact in the community both inside and outside the baseball diamond. His legacy will live on forever in the hearts and minds of those who admired him.
