With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Roger Moore, beloved father, grandfather and actor, on 23 May 2017. Roger was born in Stockwell, London, on 14 October 1927, the son of Lillian Lily and George Alfred Moore. Another well-known actor, his older brother, was killed in action in 1944 in World War II. In 1946 Roger was conscripted to the Royal Army Service Corps and was invalided out of service in 1948. He was a school teacher before dedicating himself to his burgeoning acting career. He acted in television series from the 1950s including Ivanhoe, The Alaskans and Maverick. It wasn't until 1973 that Roger gained true international fame as the third actor to play James Bond in the films. He would go on to make seven films in the series and become one of the most recognizable Bond actors. He also starred in The Persuaders, The Saint, and most recently A Princess for Christmas on the Hallmark Channel. Though most widely known for his acting, in 1991 Roger was appointed Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire for his services to charity and made a Commander of the French Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. Roger was a devoted father to Geoffrey, Deborah, Christian and his beloved wife Kristina. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild. We remember Roger as a talented actor, a devoted family man, and a charitable philanthropist. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten.
