On June 29th, 1933, Roscoe “Fatty” Arbuckle passed away at the age of 46. Born in Smith Center, Kansas on March 24th, 1887, he was an American silent film actor, comedian, director, and screenwriter. He began his career as a Keystone Kop when he joined Mack Sennett’s Keystone Studios in 1913. Arbuckle subsequently moved to larger roles in 1914, and by 1919, he was starring in his own productions. His career spanned 10 years on the silver screen before he was cast aside due to the well-known scandal in 1921 in which he was wrongfully accused of rape. His career never fully recovered from the scandal, although he was "exonerated by a committee of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in 1933, months after his death. Roscoe Arbuckle had been ill for months prior to his death, and succumbed to natural causes. He will be remembered for his lively personality, slapstick comedy, and popularization of the Pie Face routine which became a classic feature of the pie fight.
