Sal Mineo, an American actor, singer, and director, passed away at the age of 37 on February 12, 1976. He was responsible for the breakthrough role of Plato in Rebel Without a Cause (1955). He also appeared in Exodus (1960), The Longest Day (1962), Escape from the Planet of the Apes (1971), and the sketch comedy show Western World (1974). His work as a singer resulted in the hits "Start Movin'" and its follow up "Lasting Love". In addition, Mineo directed the John Lennon penned film The Reason for Living (1973). He earned a best supporting actor Oscar nomination for his portrayal of Dov Landau in Exodus. Mineo is remembered for his performances in both film and television, as well as his work as singer and director.
