On February 23, 1969, King Saud of Saudi Arabia passed away at the age of 67. He ruled the country from 1953 to 1964, succeeding his father, King Abdulaziz. During his reign, local resources such as water, oil, and electricity became available, providing much needed help to the people of Saudi Arabia. He was infamous for his lavish lifestyle and high personal spending, which were seen by some as a burden on the country. King Saud was also a prominent figure in the Muslim world, holding prestige in the Brotherhood of Muslim Nations. He established the King Faisal Foundation to support the country’s development. He is the father of the current King, Salman.
