Sergei Prokofiev, the world-renowned composer and pianist, died on March 5th, 1953 at the age of 61. A seminal figure in the world of classical music, Prokofiev was renowned for his seminal works in a range of genres from symphonic to operatic, from solo piano to film scores. He was born in Russia in 1891, and after graduating from the St. Petersburg Conservatory he went on to an illustrious career as a composer. His works included Peter and the Wolf, Romeo and Juliet, Cinderella, and numerous other pieces of timeless music that have cemented his legacy. He had a long, prolific career, and his works have been performed internationally by countless artists. He will be remembered as one of the most influential composers of the twentieth century.
