Shirley Knight, an American actress, passed away on April 22, 2020 at the age of 83. Born on July 5, 1936 in Goessel, Kansas, Shirley began her celebrated career in the late 1950s with her Broadway debut, where she was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Play. Throughout her distinguished career, Shirley acted in a variety of notable works, including The Dark at the Top of the Stairs, Sweet Bird of Youth, As Good As It Gets, and Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her roles in The Dark at the Top of the Stairs and the Disappearance of Aimee. She won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie for her role in the 1978 TV biopic, Sybil. In addition to her on-screen work, she also enjoyed success on the stage and authored two books: a memoir, Holding Court and a 2008 work of fiction “The Exact Image of Mother”. She was an adored mother, friend, and actress. She will be missed by her many fans.
