Sonny Liston, a heavyweight champion boxer, passed away on December 30, 1970 at the age of 38. Widely regarded as an iconic figure in the sport, Liston entered the ring in 1952 and won several bouts over the next decade. In 1962, he achieved the heavyweight champion title when he knocked out Floyd Patterson in the first round of their match. He held this title for two years before losing to Muhammad Ali in the iconic "Phantom Punch" fight. His career spanned 18 years, during which he wrestled 65 bouts and won 55 of them. Liston was known to be a humble man and warm-hearted friend. Despite his intensity while in the ring, he was a generous and devoted family man. He is survived by his wife and seven children. Liston's death was a massive blow to the world of boxing, where he was a beloved icon. He will forever be remembered for his legendary fights and life-long contribution to the sport.
