Sunanda Pushkar, aged 51, died on 17 January 2014. She was a prominent businesswoman in India, as well as the wife of Indian politician Shashi Tharoor. Sunanda was widely respected and admired in her field for her work as a businesswoman and an advocate for minority rights. Having graduated from Canada's York University, Sunanda enjoyed success in her professional life in a variety of business sectors. Her business interests ranged from promoting trade in the Arabian Gulf to India, and she was highly involved in the development of India's infrastructure. In 2010, Sunanda wed Shashi Tharoor, and the couple were deemed one of India's most successful power couples. Sunanda was a lifelong champion of women's rights, and her advocacy in the government was remarked upon for its positive effect. Sunanda will be remembered for her commitment to developing India through her passion and hard work. Her legacy of friendship, collaboration, and giving back to society will be remembered for years to come.
