Today marks the passing of renowned Indian actor and politician Sunil Dutt, 74, who died May 25th, 2005. Born Balraj Dutt in India in 1930, Sunil spent most of his life in the public eye. A household name in India, he had a successful career spanning five decades in Bollywood, beginning in the 1950s. He is best remembered for his roles in popular films like Mother India, Waqt, and Kaanch ki Gudia. He often starred alongside his wife of 48 years, Indian actress Nargis Dutt, and many of India's other iconic actors. In addition to his storied acting career, Sunil was active in Indian politics for more than 25 years, representing the Samajwadi Party in the Lok Sabha. He was additionally appointed the nation's Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports in 2004. Sunil Dutt spoke openly and honestly of his beloved Nargis, who passed away in 1981. He is survived by his beloved children (Sanjay Dutt, Priya Dutt, and Namrata Dutt) and grandchildren. He is remembered as a passionate actor, loving father, and dedicated public servant.
