Tammy Wynette (May 5, 1942 - April 6, 1998), one of the most famous country music stars of all time, passed away yesterday at the age of 55. She was born in Missippi as Virginia Wynette Pugh, and moved to Nashville in the late 1960s to pursue her musical career. Wynette had over 55 studio albums and between 150 and 170 singles, making her one of the most successful country music artists of her time. She was best known for her songs "Stand by Your Man" and "D-I-V-O-R-C-E". Some of her other notable hits include "Til I Can Make It on My Own" and "Singing My Song". She won many awards throughout her career, including three Grammy awards, the Country Music Association's 1989 Female Vocalist of the Year Award and the Academy of Country Music's 1994 Pioneer Award. Tammy Wynette's influence in country music will go on for generations to come. She is survived by her five children.
