Teddy Pendergrass (March 26, 1950 - January 13, 2010) passed away on January 13, 2010 at the age of 59. He was a beloved singer and songwriter, renowned for his distinctive voice and passionate performances. Growing up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Pendergrass started singing in church at a young age, and eventually went on to gain fame as lead singer of Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes. In 1977, he released his first solo album, Teddy Pendergrass, which was an immediate success, and he went on to release several other solo efforts throughout his career. His hits include "If You Don't Know Me by Now," "Love TKO," and "Close the Door." In 1982, Pendergrass was left paralyzed and wheelchair-bound after a serious auto accident. He attributed his recovery and success afterwards to his faith. Despite this setback, Pendergrass still managed to continue performing, and even released several albums following the accident. He is survived by his two sons, Teddy Jr. and Tracey, and daughter La Donna, as well as numerous fans who will always remember him fondly for his music and his courage. Pendergrass will be deeply missed.
