Terry Fox, best known for his Marathon of Hope, passed away on June 28th, 1981 at age 22. After being diagnosed with cancer at the age of 18, Terry was determined to raise money and awareness for cancer research in a cross-country run in which he was attempting to complete on an artificial leg. Starting off in St. John's, Newfoundland, Terry ran approximately 5,373 kilometers through 6 provinces before being forced to stop due to illness. It was during this Marathon of Hope that Terry Fox gained national and international recognition as an inspiration to many people fighting cancer, inspiring millions of fellow cancer patients to never give up. Following the Marathon of Hope, Terry was informed his cancer had spread to his lungs and he was unable to continue his run. Terry Fox is remembered as a hero of courage, hope, and determination, leaving his legacy as a symbol of perseverance and selflessness. His dedication to cancer research and awareness will remain an inspiration to future generations.
