Tom Clancy, 66, passed away on October 1, 2013. Born in Baltimore, MD, Tom was a fitness enthusiast, leading a healthy lifestyle while also taking part in civil service. He was known for his military fiction, political thrillers, and nonfiction works. Throughout his career, he wrote 17 No. 1 New York Times bestsellers, including The Hunt for Red October (1984), Patriot Games (1987), Clear and Present Danger (1989), and The Sum of All Fears (1991). His books have been adapted into films including The Hunt for Red October (1990), Patriot Games (1992), and Clear and Present Danger (1994). Tom was the first person to receive the Naval War College Foundation's Authors Award. He was also the recipient of the 2008 Hamburger Foundation Award for The Bear and the Dragon (2002). Tom is survived by his wife Alexandra Clancy, his children, and four grandchildren.
