Tony Hsieh, 46, passed away on November 27, 2020. He was an American internet entrepreneur, venture capitalist, and author. He was the former CEO of the online shoe and clothing company Zappos. Hsieh was an iconic and impactful business leader in the tech industry and beyond. He was known for his outgoing personality and innovative strategies for linking customer service to profits and for his mentorship of many young entrepreneurs. Born in Illinois in 1973, Hsieh graduated from Harvard University in 1995. Hsieh worked on a number of tech startups before founding the online shoe store ShoeSite.com a few years later. The company was later rebranded as Zappos and then sold to Amazon for over $1 billion. Hsieh retired from Zappos in August 2020, and after a brief transition period focused his energy on his own venture, The Enjoy Fund, which used investing to develop unique business models and innovative urban planning initiatives. He always sought to better the lives of those around him in the communities in which he lived. He wrote a book, Delivering Happiness, which inspired millions of readers to pursue their passions and live with purpose. He was beloved by many, and will be greatly missed.
