Tony Lip, an American actor and comedian best known for his role as mobster Tony Vallelonga in the 2018 movie Green Book, passed away on January 4, 2013 at the age of 82. Born Anthony Vallelonga in the Bronx, New York in 1931, Tony started his career working as a doorman at the Copacabana nightclub in Manhattan. His big break came in 1962 when he landed a part in the movie The Hustler. Tony then went on to appear in various movies, TV shows, and stage plays throughout the 60s and 70s, even winning an Obie Award for his role in the play Emma. Tony's natural wit and quick wit endeared him to audiences, as did his well-known trademark phrase “Do I look like a joke to you?” His affable nature was also showcased in a recurring role as a mob-busting crimefighter in the hit comedy series Welcome Back, Kotter. As an actor, Tony was known for his versatility, and his performances spanned a wide variety of genres. In addition to playing mobster Tony Vallelonga in Green Book, his last major role before his death, Tony also starred in The Pope of Greenwich Village, Clint Eastwood's True Crime, and Donnie Brasco, among many other films. Tony Lip leaves behind a legacy of memorable on-screen performances and a lasting impact on the Hollywood stage. He will be dearly missed.
