Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, a social and political leader of a revolutionary socialist movement in Russia, passed away on January 21, 1924, at the age of 53. Lenin was born in 1870 in Simbirsk in the Russian Empire and spent the majority of his life developing a political ideology based on Marxism-Leninism. Graduating from law school in 1891, he traveled abroad for five years learning the beliefs of Marxism and engaging in revolutionary activities. In 1917, he led the Bolshevik party, with the help of Leon Trotsky and Joseph Stalin, in the overthrow of Tsar Nicholas II and the establishment of the Russian Socialist Federation. During his time as leader, he established the Soviet Union and developed a new form of revolutionary socialism based on Marxism-Leninism. Throughout his career, his primary ideological goals were the development of a Marxian economic system with centralized economic planning, the development of a revolutionary government, and the transformation of Russia from a state of feudalism to an industrial and organized socialist society. Lenin's legacy as the founder of the Soviet Union and the leader of the Russian Revolution is remembered by his countless followers.
