Georgy Malenkov, a Soviet communist politician, died on January 14, 1988 at the age of 86. Born in 1902, Malenkov rose to prominence in the Soviet Union as a loyal follower of Joseph Stalin. After Stalin's death in 1953, he served briefly as Soviet Premier and held other government positions until his dismissal in 1957. Malenkov was a central figure in the Soviet Union's transition of power after Stalin's death, and later served on the Central Committee of the Communist Party until his death. He is remembered as a significant figure in Soviet history who dedicated his life to the Marxist-Leninist cause of the Soviet Union.
