On June 25th, 1995, the world lost a great legal mind when Warren E. Burger passed away at the age of 87. A Minnesota native, Burger attended the St. Paul College of Law where he graduated with a Juris Doctor degree at the height of the Great Depression. He then practiced law in the office of his father before becoming a state district court judge. In 1969, Burger was appointed as the 15th Chief Justice of the United States Supreme Court by President Richard Nixon. He served in that role for 17 years and is widely credited with modernizing the court and improving the process of case resolution. In 1987, Burger stepped down but continuted to remain active in legal and judicial matters which included his service on numerous commissions. Burger is remembered for his dedication to the legal system and his work towards making it more efficient and impartial. His death has left an indelible mark on the court and he will be remembered for his tireless work in upholding the integrity of our judicial system.
