On August 30, 2015, filmmaker Wes Craven passed away after a battle with brain cancer. He was 76 years old. Craven was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1939. He went to Wheaton College, where he graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. He also earned a Master of Fine Arts in Philosophy and Writing at Johns Hopkins University. Craven first made a name for himself in the filmmaking industry with his monumental success of 1984’s A Nightmare on Elm Street. He also wrote and directed the acclaimed Scream series, another vital part of his film career. His other famous films include The Hills Have Eyes, and his most recent film, Red Eye. Craven was respected among his contemporaries in the industry for his creative and unique storytelling skills as a director, producer, and writer. His appreciation for horror and suspense was known throughout the film world, and his enthusiasm for horror films often led to him being the target of special effects make-up in many of his films. Wes Craven is survived by his loving wife Iya Labunka, his son Jonathan, and his daughter Jessica. His impact on the film industry will not soon be forgotten.
