Why would someone develop this?

It works great and looks great too! (a little morbid, but awesome)

I personally find the daily accounting of high-profile deaths to be uplifting, particularly during a time when overpopulation and overconsumption perpetuate humanities cancer-like impact on Gaia, our planet, the one and only mother earth.
