Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, the former King of Saudi Arabia, passed away on January 23, 2015 at the age of 90. Abdullah came into power in August 2005 and served as the sixth King of Saudi Arabia until his death. During his reign, he focused on expanding educational opportunities, modernizing economic and development projects, and introducing reforms to the country's infrastructure. During his reign, Abdullah sought to build cooperation between Sunni and Shi'ite Muslims, and his views on foreign policy played a critical role in Middle Eastern politics. He championed several major initiatives on environmental protection, women's rights, and counterterrorism. He also established the Saudi Basic Industries Corporation, which is the largest petrochemical company in the world. Abdullah received numerous honors and awards during his career, including honorary doctorates from numerous universities around the world. He leaves behind a legacy of leadership and will be remembered for his contributions to Saudi Arabia and the region.
