Alan Turing died peacefully on Sunday, June 7th, 1954, at the age of 41. Turing was a mathematician, logician and computer scientist best remembered today for his pioneering work in the fields of theoretical computer science and artificial intelligence. He is widely considered one of the most influential figures in computer science, and his legacy lives on in many computer languages and systems today. Turing was born in London and went on to study at the Royal College of Mathematics at Cambridge University. In 1936, he published a paper on the concept of a universal computing machine, which is now known as the Turing Machine. This machine is considered the foundation of modern computing, and in 1945, Turing was a co-developer of the "Turing-Welchman Bombe", which decrypted German military messages during World War II. This invention helped to end the war and saved thousands of British lives. Turing was awarded the Order of the British Empire in 1945, and in 1950, he published "Computing Machinery and Intelligence", in which he proposed the now famous "Turing Test" for computer intelligence. Turing will be remembered as a genius, innovator and pioneer, who revolutionized modern computing. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and admired him.

Let children walk with Nature, let them see the beautiful blendings and communions of death and life, their joyous inseparable unity, as taught in woods and meadows, plains and mountains and streams of our blessed star, and they will learn that death is stingless indeed, and as beautiful as life.
