Ann Sothern, an iconic American actress renowned for her extensive career in film and television, passed away in her home on March 15th, 2001 at the age of 92. Born Harriette Lake in Valley City, North Dakota in 1909, Sothern got her big break in Hollywood after relocating to California at age 18, when she acquired a five-year contract with MGM. She made her big screen debut in 1929’s Marianne. Over the next four decades, Sothern appeared in over 80 films, her most notable performances including Maisie in the Maisie series and a notable role opposite Lucille Ball in 1939’s The Affairs of Annabel. Her work extended beyond the silver screen, with roles in NBC's The Tall Story and ABC’s Hot Off the Wire. In addition to her successful acting career, Sothern is also commended for her work as a producer and creator of Ann Sothern Productions, allowing her to star in her own television series, Private Secretary (1953-1957), which ran for 81 episodes over five seasons. Her innumerable appearing in film, capacity as producer, and various accolades throughout her career landed her a prestigious star on Hollywood’s Walk of Fame in 1960. Sothern’s legacy and influence in the entertainment industry will be remembered for years to come.
