On October 31, 1997, Anton Szandor LaVey, passed away at the age of 67. Anton LaVey was an iconic and integral figure in the history of modern Satanism and occultism. He was a self-styled atheist, author, and Satanic High Priest. Born in Chicago, Illinois on April 11, 1930 to Michael and Augusta LaVey, he was a noted musician and organist for many years. In 1966, LaVey founded the Church of Satan and declared it the first organization of its kind in over 1,400 years. He wrote and published several books, most notably The Satanic Bible, which was written in 1969. He also recorded and released multiple albums of occult-inspired music throughout his life. Anton LaVey is survived by his son, Satan Xerxes Carnacki LaVey. He will be remembered for his many accomplishments and his lasting impact on modern culture.
