Aristotle Onassis, the Greek shipping magnate, died on March 15, 1975 at the age of 68. He was born in Smyrna, which is now Izmir, Turkey, and rose to the top of the business world through his shipping acumen and extensive yacht rental services. Onassis was a self-made billionaire and became an international figure with his prominent business relationships. His fleet of both commercial and private ships were among the largest in the world, and he had extensive land holdings. Onassis was well known for his generous philanthropy, and his investments in charitable causes are still felt throughout the world. He passed away due to health complications.
