Raymond Carver, a renowned American poet and short story author, died on August 2nd, 1988 at the age of 50. He was born in Clatskanie, Oregon in 1938, and grew up in Yakima, Washington. Carver published his first major collection of short stories, entitled "Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?" in 1976, and was subsequently catapulted into the literary limelight. His works have been translated into several languages and he has been greatly admired by readers for his unique style, themes, and unforgettable characters. Carver’s works are highly regarded for capturing, with heartbreaking beauty, the everyday struggles of average people. He went on to write several other books of poetry and short stories, including “What We Talk About When We Talk About Love” and “Cathedral.” His last work before his death, “Where I'm Calling From,” was published posthumously. Carver leaves behind a legacy of beloved works that will continue to be cherished for many years to come.
