Bing Russell, an actor and entertainer best known for his role as Deputy Clem Foster in the 1960s classic western Bonanza, passed away on April 8, 2003 in Thousand Oaks, California. He was 76 years old. Born in New Jersey in 1927, Russel moved to Los Angeles in 1950 to pursue an acting career. In addition to Bonanza, which ran for 14 seasons, his lengthy list of credits included The Magnificent Seven, The High Chaparral, Alias Smith and Jones, Adam 12, and Murder She Wrote. Later in life, he continued to appear television in shows such as The Twilight Zone, and in films such as Patton and The Natural. In addition to acting, Russell was an accomplished entrepreneur. In 1966, he opened a baseball-themed restaurant, which evolved into a Minor League baseball team - the Portland Mavericks. Russell owned and operated the team, which eventually became a Hollywood movie starring Tom Hanks, until 1977. Outside of acting and business, Russell was a proud family man. He is survived by his wife, Karen Russell, their three children, Robert, Kurt and Jody, and his four true loves - his grandchildren.
