Robert "Bob" Denver, best known for popular television shows such as "Gilligan's Island" and "The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis," has passed away on September 2, 2005 at the age of 70. Born in New Rochelle, New York in 1935, Denver had a passion for acting from a young age, appearing in radio and television commercials. His initial television break came when he was cast in the role of beatnik Maynard G. Krebs in The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis, which ran from 1959 to 1963. He then gained worldwide fame for his performance of Gilligan in classic show Gilligan's Island. The show, which ran for three seasons from 1964-1967, featured Denver's comic timing and lovable easy going qualities which made him a household name. Bob Denver also made guest appearances in popular television shows such as The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, and Family Feud, often using his signature humor and wit. Denver went onto produce, direct and star in TV movies and television specials throughout the 70s and 80s. Bob Denver's passion for the ocean and love of nature were well known, and he dedicated much of his time to ocean preservation and chartering sailboat trips. Throughout his life and career, Bob Denver touched many lives with his endearing spirit and unique sense of humor. He will be sadly missed.
