He lettered in football, basketball, and baseball and earned All-Big Ten honors as a football end. In 1950, Grant began his professional football career with the Philadelphia Eagles, but it wasn't until he joined the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League (CFL) that he truly made his mark. As a receiver and defensive end, he helped lead the Blue Bombers to four Grey Cup championships and was named CFL's Most Outstanding Player in 1957. Grant's success as a player transitioned seamlessly into coaching. In 1961, he became the head coach of the Blue Bombers, where he established a dominant reign and led the team to six Grey Cup titles. In 1967, he returned to the United States to join the Minnesota Vikings as their head coach. Under his guidance, the Vikings became a powerhouse in the National Football League (NFL), winning 11 division titles and appearing in four Super Bowls. Aside from football, Grant also had a passion for other sports. He played for the Minneapolis Lakers of the National Basketball League and even had a brief stint with the Philadelphia Phillies in Major League Baseball.
