Cary Grant, the beloved actor of the golden age of Hollywood, passed away in 1986 at the age of 82. He created a legacy of incandescent performances, working with some of the greatest names in the industry. Born Archibald Alexander Leach in Horfield, Gloucestershire, Grant was presented with a golden Globe for his lifetime achievement and an Oscar for lifetime achievement in 1970 and 1981 respectively. He began his career as a stage and vaudeville actor in England before coming to the US in the 1930s. After developing his star power in many iconic films such as The Awful Truth, Bringing Up Baby, North By Northwest, Notorious, Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, An Affair to Remember, and Charade, Grant retired in 1966. Grant will be lovingly remembered for his charismatic presence, prodigious humor, and resonant performances. Though he is gone, Grant lives on in the collective memory of audiences everywhere. May he rest in peace.
