Charmian Carr, whose claim to fame was playing the eldest von Trapp daughter in the 1965 Warner Bros. film "The Sound of Music," died on September 17, 2016 at the age of 73. Carr, born Charmian Farnon in Chicago on December 27, 1942, began her acting career at age 17 as a motion picture extra and was discovered by director Robert Wise for the iconic musical film. Following her role as the elder von Trapp daughter, she pursued her passion for interior design and opened an interior design business, which she ran for 25 years. She returned to acting in later years, appearing in several television films as well as on stage. Later she also authored three books; her autobiography Forever Liesl, a memoir of her experiences on the set of The Sound of Music; and two novels, All the Winters That Have Been and Evening Maggie. Carr, a mother of two and grandmother of three, is survived by her two children, Jennifer and Emily Lembke, and three grandchildren.
