Clarence Darrow (April 18, 1857 – March 13, 1938) passed away on March 13, 1938, at 80 years old. He was a noted American lawyer and leading member of the American Civil Liberties Union. Darrow graduated from the University of Michigan Law School in 1878 and quickly established himself as a prominent criminal lawyer with famous cases ranging from the 1910 “Monkey Trial” on the teaching of evolution in public schools to his 1923 defense of Leopold and Loeb in their trial for the murder of Bobby Franks. Darrow also wrote extensively on the topics of labor and capital. His book "Resist Not Evil" demonstrated his reverence for justice and liberty and remains influential to this day. Darrow was highly regarded for his influence and contributions to American law and culture, and will be remembered for his tremendous impact on our society.
