It is with great sadness that we announce the recent passing of David Prowse, the British actor and bodybuilder best known for his portrayal of Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy. David died peacefully in England on November 28th, 2020, at the age of 85. David was born in Bristol, England in 1935. After college, he opened his own gym, and shortly thereafter, he was cast in two of his most memorable roles: portraying Julius Caesar in the 1967 musical, "Camelot," and as Frankenstein's Monster in the Hammer Film Productions movie, "The Horror of Frankenstein." Years later, David was cast as Darth Vader in the iconic Star Wars movie trilogy. It was David's physical presence and towering 6'6" frame that made him such a credible villain. He served as the body of Vader, while James Earl Jones provided the iconic voice. Although David retired from acting in the early 2000s, he remained a popular figure in the Star Wars fan community. He attended many conventions, and entertained fans with fascinating tales from behind the scenes of the Star Wars films and other past projects. David is survived by his good friend, Dominic Pye, and numerous other family members and friends. He will be remembered fondly by all who knew him and were enriched by his experience and presence in the world. May he rest in peace.
