Donald Pleasence, best known for his renowned roles in motion pictures, passed away on the 2nd of February 1995, at the age of 75. Having trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, Pleasence quickly became known as a talented character actor in films such as The Great Escape and You Only Live Twice throughout the 1960s and 70s. In the 1970s, Pleasence had major motion picture success, appearing in films such as his Academy Award-nominated portrayal of Adolf Hitler in The Eagle Has Landed, as well as in Halloween. His other film works included Alfred Hitchcock’s Frenzy and Escape to Victory. Along with his film roles, Pleasence was also an accomplished stage actor, appearing in a variety of plays throughout his career, from Shakespearean works to musical theatre. Donald Pleasence will be remembered for his unique and often eccentric roles on the screen and stage that have ensured his posthumous legacy.
