Beloved musician Django Reinhardt passed away on Wednesday, May 16th, 1953 at the age of 43. The Belgian native was best known as a pioneer of jazz guitarist, who had a profound impact on the European jazz scene in the 1930s and 40s. His innovative improvisational technique and unique style is what set him apart from other musicians during his time. From his first public performances in the 1920s to his untimely death in 1953, Django Reinhardt left an indelible mark on the world of music. He was one of the first jazz musicians to receive international acclaim, influencing jazz giants such as Dizzie Gillespie, Charlie Christian and Joe Pass. Though he received recognition for his innovative and inventive guitar playing throughout his career, he was a complex and influential artist first and foremost. His monumental contributions to both modern jazz and contemporary jazz will be remembered for generations to come. Django Reinhardt is survived by his two daughters, Babik and Fleur. He will be deeply missed by all who had the great honor of knowing him.
