On Thursday, September 28th, 1991, renowned musician Miles Davis passed away at age 65. Davis was an American jazz trumpeter and composer. He is widely considered one of the most influential and acclaimed figures in the history of jazz and, to a lesser extent, in classical music. He released over 30 studio albums over the course of his lifetime, as well as several live albums, greatest hits compilations, and studio outtakes. Among his most famous albums are Kind of Blue released in 1959 and Sketches of Spain released in 1960. He also created his own unique style of jazz fusion mixed with elements of R&B, funk, and some of his own classical influences, making him a pioneer in the genre of jazz fusion. His long career and immense showmanship earned him five Grammy awards, additional honors including a Kennedy Center lifetime achievement award, and numerous accolades from fellow musicians. His near-six-decade career left an unforgettable mark on the world of jazz and will be remembered and celebrated forever.
