Jerry Garcia, legendary musician and leader of the band Grateful Dead, died on August 9th 1995 at the age of 53. An accomplished singer, songwriter, and guitarist, Garcia made a name for himself in the world of rock and roll. He and the Grateful Dead became a cornerstone of the San Francisco music scene of the 1960s and explored multiple genres including rock and roll, blues, folk, and psychedelia. Garcia was praised for his unique musical style, improvisation, and compositions. He also found success in his work as a solo artist and bandleader. He released more than 20 studio albums over his 35-year career, most notably Workingman's Dead and American Beauty. He is survived by his daughters Annabelle, Theresa, and Keelin; two sons, named in part for founder members of the Grateful Dead, John "David" Kahn and Keelin Noel Garcia-Kahn; and his companion Deborah Koons Garcia. He will be remembered as a master musician, devoted fan of the Grateful Dead, and a beloved member of the rock and roll community.
