Dusty Hill, bassist of the iconic classic rock band ZZ Top, passed away Tuesday, July 27th in his home at the age of 72. A legendary musician, Hill was known for his unique blend of funk, blues, and rock and roll. He was integral to the distinct ZZ Top sound, having co-written and recorded a number of notable hits alongside bandmates Billy Gibbons, Frank Beard, and later, Daniel Foster. He was DJ magazine’s 6th “greatest bassist of all time”, and the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their immense contribution to the classic rock genre. In addition to his musical career, Hill was also a car enthusiast, with his bandmates collecting and customizing cars with him throughout their touring days. He will be dearly missed by his wife of forty years, Charley Nicoletti, as well as his daughter, Kelly Hill, and lifelong friends, Billy Gibbons, and Frank Beard.
