Esther Rolle, one of the most recognizable faces in the entertainment industry, passed away at home in her sleep on November 17, 1998, at the age of 78. Rolle began her career as a stage actress, making her Broadway debut in 1952 with play "Three Seasons". She immediately climbed the ranks, appearing in many popular productions throughout the next decade. She won a Woodie King Jr. award for her performance in the musical "I'm Glad I'm Black". Rolle gained further recognition after appearing in television shows, including "Good Times", "Maude", "The Love Boat", and "The Golden Girls". Her work as Florida Evans in "Good Times" earned her two Emmy nominations. Her work wasn't just restricted to television. Rolle also appeared in many films throughout her career. Her acting credits include "Someday They'll Give Us Credit", "A Raisin in the Sun", and "Love Is a Funny Thing". Rolle was an inspiration for many aspiring actors and held a strong advocate for African-American roles in entertainment. She was a force to be reckoned with in the industry, leaving a legacy of powerful performances and a passion for the art. She will be missed.
