Fess Parker, beloved actor and businessman, passed away on March 18th, 2010 at the age of 85. Born in Fort Worth, Texas on August 16th, 1924, Fess attended Long Beach Junior College, UCLA, and USC. Parker's career as an actor began in 1951. He won hearts on a global scale after portraying the iconic Davy Crockett on the Disney television series of the same name. The show's wild popularity spawned a series of Davy Crockett movies before Parker starred in the classic 1956 Western The Great Locomotive Chase. He also played Daniel Boone in a TV series of the same name, as well as appearing in The Great McNally, Old Yeller, and The Aquanauts. Periodic returns to the big and small screens were seen throughout the years and despite his undeniable television success, Fess Parker had a broad reach, owning four hotels in the Santa Barbara area. He threw his hat into politics, running for the California State Assembly in 1982, losing in the nomination process. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Marcella, his four children, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, and fans alike.
