It is with deep sadness that the family of Henry Fonda announce his passing on August 12, 1982 at the age of 77. Henry Fonda was born in Grand Island, Nebraska to John Fonda and Herberta Fonda, and he later moved to New York City to follow his acting career. He was most known for his roles in films such as 12 Angry Men, Once Upon a Time in the West, and his Academy-Award nominated performance in On Golden Pond. His career spanned five decades in which he worked on over 70 films. Primarily a stage actor and film actor, he was highly recognized for his roles in film and television, garnering an Academy Award for his performance in 1937's The Grapes of Wrath, a Golden Globe Award in 1972, and being praised for his craft by the American Film Institute. He paved the way for many actors following in his footsteps with a career in the entertainment industry, and his talent will remembered and honored for decades to come. He is survived by his son and two daughters, seven grandchildren, and many devoted colleagues and fans.
