Frances Bavier, best known for her role as Aunt Bee on the beloved television show The Andy Griffith Show, has passed away at her home in Siler City, North Carolina, on December 6, 1989, at the age of 86. Born on December 14, 1902 in New York City, Bavier was a Broadway stage actress for many years before she started acting in television. In 1960, Bavier made her debut as Aunt Bee on The Andy Griffith Show, which aired for eight seasons and became a television classic. She received a Primetime Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 1967. After The Andy Griffith Show, she took on other roles in occasional films, including musicals, comedies, and mysteries. Bavier retired from acting in 1970 and returned to New York, but eventually returned to North Carolina in the early 1980s and spent her final years there. Bavier is survived by her many devoted fans who grew to love her character and cherish her work.
